If one will try to process weather data into the computer, the results probably will not be as perfect as the nature set yesterday (January 12, 2012) for the participets at the marathon. 18 France, Kenyan and Ethiopian elite runners took the front group to a 1:03:40h at the half way line. After 28km Twambe and Kenyan Francis Kibiwott separated the group, running shoulder to shoulder up to the last 500m, a point from which Twambe set-up the pace for the win. After thanking god, he looked at his watch, smiled and waved as the winner how broke his own PB by 1:13min and set the France standard for the London Olympic games. "This time it was my revenge for last year", said Twambe at the end, reminding everybody his 2011 lost at the last 500m.
Just 2 seconds behind Kibiwott was consoled with the 2nd place. Blacha Kebede from Ethiopia finished 3rd with 2:07:35 completed a remarkable winners podium. His country man Gemechu Biru crossed the finish line in the 4th place with 2:07:43. All 7 first runners clocked a new PB.
Zohar Zimro, the only Israeli athlete that has already confirmed his place at the 2012 Olympic games won the Israeli championship clocked 2:15:06, a great result for the Oren Hasharon athletics club runner how still suffers from Achilles tendon sensitivity. Webe Barihon started in a very good pace, clocking 1:04:48 after 21.1km. "I had a very good run with an A standard time up to the 37th km, but then my body refused responding and I went to a 5 min/km pace", said the second Israeli after crossing the finish line with 2:21:15. Mamo Asrat from Hasolelim Jerusalem running club finished 3rd among the Israelies with 2:22:33.
The International Olympic Israeli runner, Hayele Seteign didn’t finish the marathon after retired at the 25th kilometer.
Weldegebriel Tinbit Gidey of Ethiopia was the first women to finish after 2:40:08. 21 seconds later came her friend, Hirut Beyene Guangul. Worknesh Shashe Oda completed an Ethiopian podium after finishing 3rd with 2:40:44.
In the Israeli woman championship, Svetlana Bakhmand from Maccabi Rishon lesion won the prize at her second career marathon with 2:54:00. Loris Mendelovich will celebrate 52 years of age in a 3 month period, a fact which didn’t bother the Oren Hasharon athletics club female runner to come in the 2nd place with 2:58:57. 47 years old Orna Blaw from Maccabi Tel aviv finished 3rd after 3:16:50.
